2020 has been a rough year because of the COVID-19 shutdown, but with restaurants reopening it’s inspiring locals to give a little extra.

Margarita Ramirez has been serving tables at Blueberry Hill for 6 years, and in those 6 years, she met her usual customer Andrew Meachum.

However, during the COVID-19 shutdown, Ramirez was one of the millions impacted by it.

“I was still getting a paycheck. But you know servers we live for our tips, so it was very hard for me,” said Ramirez in a News 3 KSNV interview.

On a $34.63 dollar bill, Meachum decided to give a little extra. “And then he showed me the receipt and I couldn’t believe it. I told my manager are you serious it says $2,000 and he said yeah you deserve it,” said Ramirez.

Meachum was inspired by the #2020TipChallenge back in January, so he decided to leave a $2,020 tip. The challenge inspires customers to tip extra at restaurants.

“I’ve been very fortunate with the pandemic being an over the road truck driver. I’ve been very busy during this crisis and I just wanted to take the opportunity to help someone out,” said Meachum.
