NASA Asked Twitter To Name The 7 New Planets They Discovered And Instantly Regretted It

Last week, NASA announced it had found 7 new earth-sized planets orbiting a star called TRAPPIST-1 about 40 light years away.  It was major news because the discovery was rare, all of the planets are similar in size to earth and temperate, which means they have water on the surface and could potentially support life.

Being the tech savvy organization they are, NASA decided to ask Twitter for help in naming the seven new planets and of course the collective creative forces of the internet made NASA regret the decision instantly.  Didn't anyone at NASA remember what happened back when Great Britain asked the internet to name a new research vessel?

Everything started innocently...

Some people even thought we should name them after characters from famous movies and TV shows...

But then the people who are still upset that Pluto isn't a planet anymore decided to chime in...

And then, things took a turn for the worse...

It even turned political at one point...

Finally, everything just fell apart...

But then, Twitter user @BigEnuff emerged as the voice of reason...

What would you name the seven new planets?  Let us know in the comments below!
